The Amazing Grandparent Library

As a child I used to explorer my grandparents house looking for interesting stuff to play with. I'd always stumble across these books but I'd never look through them in fear they would collapse from age. Now I know better.
The other day I decided to comb through a few and I found some neat stuff.

My grandma had decided to buy a bunch of books that are pretty much almanacs years ago and they never really got used. Most of the stuff in the books are really vague and boring with the occasional bit of interest.

What I found most interesting was the first wave of gas friendly cars. A lot of people forget we went through the whole high gas prices thing already.
There are more pictures I'll have to upload later.

Lloyd

These are the slides I found while searching through Lloyd's crap. They seem to be covered in some soda or oil. If only I had a projector I could see them in there full glory. I'd also look at the Darth Vader slide I got with my Han Solo action figure in sixth grade. Sigh.

Knockin' on heavens door

There's not really too much to say about this one. I found it at my grandparents house along with some other gems. It's very odd how no one seems to notice the giant Jesus knocking on the building. Now I know what you're thinking "But maybe no one notices because they can't really see him." Well I'll respond by saying "Then why is he knocking on a building?" Soon we'd realize that it's just a book cover and the conversations in my head are always useless.

Virginia Fluck

There was what seemed like a million signs that day leading to this estate sale. Where I live estate sales are common but on this day we had some spare time so we checked it out. It was like looking into a crystal ball. The woman who lived there was named Virginia which happens to be my girlfriends name and she was also into art history like my girlfriend. We looked through all of her old stuff trying to figure out more about her. We found some old notes stuck into random books and magazines. Most were from funeral homes and hospitals. These people were really hounding her. We sifted around the nic-nacs and stumbles across a magnet with my last name. It turns out someone who lived with her had my last name and was into engineering. Anyways to make a long story short I found a couple of neat little books including this on on Spanish phrases.
Great ones include:
  • Todos a bordo = All Aboard
  • Ella es asi = That's the way she is
  • Dar a lux = To give birth
  • Comprar el gato en el saco = to buy a pig in a poke
  • Hace castillos en el aire = He builds castles in the air
Some of the stuff according to Googles language tools is off such as:
  • Ella es asi = It is thus
  • Comprar el gato en el saco = To buy the cat in the coat
I'd like to go through the whole book but I'll save that for another time.

Llooney Lloyd

Over a year ago me, my girlfriend and a few of our friends saw a large crowd (large in yard sell terms) gathered in front of a dilapidated house hunching over boxes. A neon orange sign stated "Llooney Lloyd's Yard Sale!".
How could I pass up a yard sell with a sign proclaiming the insanity of the seller?
So we combed through box after box trying to find anything interesting when out of nowhere a man I assumed was "Loony Lloyd" gives us a deal we can't refuse. He hands us all bags and tells us that we can fill them up with as much stuff as possible and it'll only cost us a cold hard 50 cents.
It was magical.
The first thing that I see is a box full of PeƱafiel key chains and a few slides from an old slide projector. The slides were of a pretty normal family around Christmas time enjoying each others company. I am pretty sure they were of Lloyd in his youth.
What really caught my eye though was a box full of old tapes. They were mostly country and lame eighties rock with a few homemade mixtapes. Being in a rush I only took one and to this day I regret it.
On the tape were several conversations between a former police officer and some other shady characters explaining past due rent, urination problems and odd sexual behavior. I will forever wonder what is on those other tapes. Perhaps it was all a undercover police sting or maybe Lloyd was a private investigator?
Here's a clip from the tape. I have left out most of it because it's about 10 minutes long and gives out a lot of personal information.
